One unique thing about Vox Media is the workplace that we inhabit. It’s a glorious row house situated in Dupont Circle, full of quirks, doors that won’t slide open, and friendly product team members playing Xbox 360 after a hard day’s work.
However, there is a downside to our row house: I have a tiny desk. But that’s okay, as I managed to grab some prime real estate in a spacious bay window on the second floor.
My desk is home to several gadgets that are used to perform quality assurance tests. Additionally, when a user submits a bug report, I attempt to reproduce the issue prior to involving our developers.
My work computer is a MacBook Pro running Lion. I use a Logitech Anywhere MX mouse and I regret nothing. Do you see that 5-hour Energy? That particular beverage has ‘use in case of an emergency’ written all over it.
This space is an equal opportunity desk. Here sits a Lumia 800, an iPhone 4 and a Google Nexus 7. Between these three devices, I am mostly covered when it comes to mobile browser testing. During downtime, I enjoy using different operating systems to see which ones I like best.
Arizona State is a big part of who I am. I keep this mini-helmet on my desk to remind me of my college years, and to give me inspiration when writing an article on my SB Nation blog, House of Sparky.
Finally, we arrive at my Ryan Howard bobblehead. He sits on the windowsill, overseeing my daily routine while letting me know when something interesting happens outside. While the Phillies may not be doing well in 2012, I am not a fair weather fan.
It’s a small space, but it has everything I would ever need to do my job.
