Join the Vox Product Diversity and Inclusion Committee, on Nov 5th and 6th 2016 for Color Coded.
What is Color Coded ?
Color Coded is an unhackathon* that aims to empower People of Color through collaboration, creativity, and self-care.
We believe that true inclusivity begins with carving safe spaces for underrepresented communities. Color Coded wants to provide such a space for Creatives of Color as they work on projects that will benefit their own communities. A project example is tonr, a photo filtering app for People of Color built during the Vox Product team yearly hackathon.
*What is an unhackathon ?
An unhackathon is an event during which people get together to build things with camaraderie and good vibes. There are no winners, no trophies, and no stress.
For this edition, we are including a few activities that pertain to self-care and mental health. There will be:
- A discussion about being a Person of Color in the workplace, self-care routines, and maintaining a sound mental state.
- A yoga class led by the awesome Sihnuu Hetep (we will be providing mats for the first 25 people that sign up)
Check out the schedule for more details.
Who can participate?
Are you a Person of Color? Do you want to build inclusive products? Do you consider yourself to be a creative? Are you a designer, a developer, or do you work in another creative field? Would you like to be introduced to a new skill by working on a project? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should participate!
Spots are limited, though. Sign up quick!
What am I expected to build?
Creativity comes in many forms, so you shouldn't feel obligated to deliver software. Maybe you’d like to create a comic, a mini-documentary, or even build a physical prototype? It’s your time to explore.
Will food be provided?
Yes, we will provide breakfast and lunch both days.
Where will this be?
The event will be held at iStrategy Labs, located near Shaw Metro Station.
